Convene Networks‘ Home Subscriber Server (ConveneHSS) is purpose-built for virtualization, assisting carriers with their goal of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and provides a feature deployment environment for Software Defined Networks (SDN).  It is a Virtual Machine (VM)-ready software product designed such that it leverages multi-core COTS hardware with a highly threaded software implementation, and provides performance improvements by increasing resources on standard Linux platforms.

A Home Subscriber Server (HSS) provides a central repository of subscriber data that supports the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) entities that handle calls through the network.  It contains the subscriber profiles and subscription-related information, performs authentication and authorization of the subscriber, and provides information about the subscriber’s location and IP information.

ConveneHSS supports these and other deployment benefits by providing the following features:

  • High Availability Active/Active redundant configuration;
  • Scalability;
  • 3GPP Standard Compliance, including RFC 6733,3GPP TS 29.272;
  • Diameter Interfaces S6, S13, Cx, Sh, SWm, SWx;
  • RADIUS Interface Wa;
  • Authentication credential profiles for EPC, IMS, and WiFi;
  • Mobile Application Part Interfaces (MAP) C, D, Gr (under development);
  • Initial and subsequent database provisioning via comma separated file (CSV) specification;
  • Graphical User Interface (GUI) for configuration and subscriber profile online modification;
  • Operation, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P) via GUI, SNMP, CLI;
  • Comprehensive Operational Measurements (OMs) for monitoring and analysis;
  • Real-time logging and server notifications;
  • TLS;
  • IPv4 and IPv6;
  • TCP, SCTP.

ConveneHSS provides all information associated with mobile subscribers which is required for service provisioning, identification, authentication, authorization, routing, call handling, GPRS mode transmission, charging, subscriber tracing, and network operations and maintenance purposes.
